Mini Switzerland in the Hope Valley

Hope Valley Climate Action [HVCA] has seen recent communications over bus proposals in Bradwell related to the Mini Switzerland public transport project. We greatly appreciate all the interest in and enthusiasm for the project. We are sorry to hear of any concern the proposals may have caused. We want to clarify the situation and reduce any misunderstandings.

HVCA shares with local residents the desire to see better buses for Bradwell. Over the last year we have been working on the Mini Switzerland project, which aims to achieve this. We are advocating a service at least once an hour, seven days a week, from early in the morning to late in the evening. This forms a core part of our Mini Switzerland proposals. It would be a big step up from the current provision. The bus routes in our report, connecting with trains at Hope station, are illustrations of one way in which an hourly service might be provided. Buses and trains to Sheffield and to other villages are important to all of us in the Valley.

Responsibility for Mini Switzerland now rests with the East Midlands County Combined Authority [EMCCA]. They have the powers to co-ordinate and commission bus services. Nothing is confirmed yet. More discussion is required. We welcome the interest of Bradwell residents and people across the Valley in securing improved services. We are urging EMCCA to make their plans clear. In the meantime we have said to the Parish Council that we would be glad to take part in a meeting in Bradwell, to listen to concerns and suggestions. We encourage Bradwell residents, and those in other villages, to develop their public transport ideas to feed to EMCCA once they are ready for dialogue.
