Since coming here in October 2019 I have worked towards creating an organic small terraced garden with a variety of habitats for wildlife, including flowers for pollinators, 3 small ponds, a native hedge, trees, shrubs, wood piles and a mini meadow including yellow rattle, oxeye daisies, vetches, cranesbills, knapweed, yarrow, hawkbit plus shade loving and bog plants such as campion, wild garlic, bistort, purple loosestrife, native bluebells etc. I favour an ‘untidy’ approach, but also grow fruit and vegetables in a more orderly way!  We make our own compost and rely on predating insects, birds and amphibians to keep ‘pests’ at bay.

NB. As a co-organiser of the Bradwell Wildflower Project I’d like to draw your attention to our 6 separate roped-off and signed wildflower sites in the village: (Three at the south end, off Church St) = 1) Dale End; 2) near the Peace Garden; and 3) opposite the Shoulder of Mutton Pub; Plus two on Beggar’s Plot (at north end of village). : And one on Towngate (near the White Hart Inn). Note the Yellow Rattle in some of these areas, established over the past 5 years.

Open Saturday 28th June 11-4.30 pm.

(Bessie Lane runs between The Hills and Edge Lane. (Don’t rely on Satnav!!)
