Hathersage Millennium Garden is a community garden in the centre of Hathersage, in between the Methodist Church, the petrol station and the Derbyshire Dales public car park.

The garden was created in 2000 as community project to celebrate the Millennium. The garden was designed and landscaped by volunteers from the Methodist Church (which owns the land) and the wider community, with support and set-up funds from the Parish Council. It was a real community effort with lots of people getting involved. The garden is still run by a group of volunteers who meet fortnightly for gardening sessions.

The main area is a woodland garden which is managed on a semi-wild basis. There are a range of mature trees and shrubs providing shade and shelter for wildlife. There are pathways running through the woodland which children can enjoy exploring. We have installed birdboxes and ‘bug hotels’ and do our best to encourage native species, observing and learning as we go, and would love to hear ideas from others.

The garden is open all the time. We will be holding a special open session on Saturday 28 June 2025 10-12, with information about the garden, volunteers on hand to chat and refreshments. (No need to book.)

Open all the time. Open morning (with refreshments and ‘meet-the volunteers’) Saturday 28 June 2025 10-12

There is parking and space to lock bicycles in the Methodist Church car park.
