Have Your Say on Transport in the Hope Valley and Beyond

Now’s your chance to tell the Mayor what you think about travel in the Hope Valley and across the East Midlands! The Mayor’s Transport Strategy consultation is officially open, and everyone is invited to share their views on how a modern, fair, and affordable transport network should look in the years ahead. You can read the consultation and take part here: Mayor’s Transport Plan.

The strategy is high-level level focusing on the outcomes it wants to achieve but the Mayor’s six priorities reflect what she thinks matters most to residents and communities across the region:

1. Fighting Congestion

Traffic jams aren’t anyone’s favourite. Congestion leads to pollution, lost time, and frustration. The Mayor wants to hear how important tackling congestion is to you and what local solutions might work best as traffic continues to grow.

2. Fighting for Young People’s Independence

Many families spend hours driving children around. A fair transport system should give young people safe, affordable, independent travel, helping them reach education, training, and social opportunities without relying on parents for every journey.

3. Fighting for Connected Communities

Communities need better links between homes, schools, hospitals, workplaces, and town centres. The Mayor is asking what improvements are needed to make it easier for people to travel without depending on shuttlebuses or cars.

4. Fighting for Reliable Public Transport

Buses that are full before they reach your stop, or that are patchy and unreliable, make life difficult. The plan aims to identify gaps in the network so every community has dependable, affordable options.

5. Fighting for Better Roads

No one likes potholes! Poor-quality roads affect safety, confidence, and vehicle durability. The Mayor wants to hear how much of the transport budget should go to road repairs versus other transport improvements.

6. Fighting for Safe and Clean Bus Stops

Bus stops are the gateway to public transport. Unlit, poorly maintained stops with no customer information can discourage people from using services, especially in rural areas. Residents are invited to share their ideas on what improvements would make bus stops safer, cleaner, and more appealing.

Are these your priorities? Either way let the Mayor know. She is keen for everyone to be heard.

How to Take Part

There are two separate questionnaires: one for individuals and one for businesses/organisations.
