Community Tree Planting – Overdale Forest
Join Hope Valley Climate Action for our first large-scale woodland planting!
Over the past three years, we’ve planted many hedgerows across the Hope Valley — and now we’re taking the next big step: creating a new woodland! We’ll be planting a mix of native tree species across 11 plots over five planting days, and we’d love your help.
The planting will take place on a Derbyshire Wildlife Trust reserve between Bradwell and Abney. The site was grazed until a few years ago and is now mainly grass and bracken, with stunning views across the valley. It’s a bit steep and exposed, so come prepared for hill conditions and variable weather.
Our vision is to create a diverse wood pasture, lightly grazed by Highland cattle in the future. Once established, we expect the trees to store around 60 tonnes of CO₂ per year — great for the climate and for wildlife.
