Back on the 10th March we were pleased to welcome Ed Cavanagh, Steve Groves, and Spencer Green, from Breedon, to hear about the progress with their plans for carbon capture and storage (CCS) at the Hope Cement works. They put their plans in the context of the Government’s Climate Change Committee’s recently published seventh carbon budget, which identifies CCS as the major intervention for decarbonising the cement industry. The presentation slides, together with a briefing on the consenting process for the ‘Peak Cluster’ network of pipelines which would transport the captured gas out to the Irish Sea can be found here (link).

Will the Morecambe Bay stores be ready? Assuming that Morecambe North will shut in in the next 5 years ahead of any proposed CO2 injection would this be used until Morecambe South gets to cessation-of-production which (based on NSTA released production figures) could be 2040?
In this case, will Morecambe North be sufficient?
