The sun was shining for our monthly ‘Any Bike Will Do’ ride on Sunday 1st March, and both the flowers and our confidence were in full bloom.
Smiles all around we pedalled and ran up to Ladybower Dam along Thornhill Trail for a slightly dryer and more sunny ride than last time. Hearing the birds chirping and noticing the snow drops and daffodils popping up it really felt like the start of Spring.
One rider who attended particularly had a spring in their step (or ‘pedal’). Jenny (pictured below) said ‘I have not ridden a bicycle for about 15 years but was encouraged by this bike collective and the magnificent scenery to give it a go. The route made it a safe and enlivening experience, a good start after many years of not cycling!”
Another attendee said ‘Perhaps we should rename it ‘Bikes and Buggies Collective’’ as she pushed her toddler in the buggie and ran alongside us along the trail. She explained she never would be able to do this but being in a group made it more interactive and interesting for her daughter.
Together we pedalled, pushed and walked our wheels up the final incline to the dams for a well earnt view and breather in the warm sunshine. And with Jenny’s words ‘I was inordinately proud that I managed to come out on this outing. Have confidence, give it a go!’
To find out about our next ride or to get involved in the Hope Valley Bike Collective come along to our meetup on Tuesday 10th March 7-8pm at Hope Tea Rooms. In the meantime, join our Bike Collective Whatsapp group.
