Introducing Move More Hope Valley

What is Move More Hope Valley?

Hope Valley Climate Action has received support from High Peak Borough Council to deliver Move More Hope Valley—an exciting new initiative designed to encourage and support residents and visitors to make more everyday journeys on foot, by bike, or via public transport.

Over the coming months, we’ll be working closely with communities across the Hope Valley, hosting events, discussions, and activities centred around active travel. We aim to better understand local needs, explore opportunities, and inspire sustainable travel choices that benefit health, wellbeing, and the environment.

This is a timely project, as the insights gathered through Move More Hope Valley will help shape Derbyshire County Council’s upcoming Active Travel Master Plan for the Hope Valley, which will launch an 8-week public consultation in the summer. Move More Hope Valley could also pave the way for smaller, community-led improvements, based on what each village identifies as important.

Why should we move more?

There are lots of benefits for moving more and keeping active and below are just a few reminders:

  • People become healthier, happier and more fulfilled by improving their health and wellbeing
  • Communities are more connected, stronger, feel safer and the local economy is enabled to thrive
  • Society is more equal, with empathy, effort and resources being invested in the right places, enabling good lives for all
  • Environments encourage movement, are welcoming, highly valued and contribute positively towards tackling climate change

 How can you get involved?

Attend an event: We will be hosting our first Move More event on June 7th to complement the launch of the national Great Big Green Week campaign. Our Community Engagement Officer, Emily Gait, along with HVCA trustees and volunteers, will host a public event at the Heart of Hathersage on June 7th. Pop along to hear more about the project, learn about ways to participate in the Great Big Green Week, and about Hope Valley Climate Action.

  • Saturday 7th June
  • 12-4PM
  • Heart of Hathersage, Main Road, Hathersage
  • Pedal Power smoothie maker
  • Free of charge

Volunteer for the project: To make events a success we’re looking for volunteers. Opportunities will vary, from helping spread the word by putting up posters in your village, creating or sharing content on social media, to welcoming attendees and assisting with workshops and discussions. No experience needed – training and guidance will be provided. It’s a great chance to meet like-minded people and be part of something meaningful in your community.

Invite us to your event/community group: Are you part of a community group and interested in learning more about Move More—or perhaps collaborating on an activity? We’d love to hear from you. Get in touch and we can explore how we can work together.

Emily Gait leads the engagement for this project. For any questions, comments, or if you would like to get involve,d please drop Emily an email, emilygait@hopevalleyclimateaction.org.uk.
