Open Wild Gardens 2025

Eight Wild gardens in Hope Valley were open this year and we had 150 visitors, some of whom came from as far away as Winster.  After the previous few days of high winds, the weather obliged by being calm and pleasantly warm, and the event was enjoyed by hosts and visitors.

“We were excited by the pleasure and interest taken by our visitors in gardening for nature and beauty. The varied colours of wild flowers were eye-catching and the sweet scent of  Lady’s bedstraw filled the air”.

“People came steadily through the day, so I was able to enjoy talking to everyone.”

“I had 17 enthusiastic visitors wanting ideas and advice, and we shared our experience. People commented that introducing wild flowers through a more open style of gardening is increasing the number of butterflies, moths, bees and interesting insects. Amphibians flourish in our ponds, and hedgehogs and hares visit our gardens. ”

“People especially enjoyed our pond and frogs and were interested to hear that in Bradwell we have a Forest School session for children in our woodland area after school on a Wednesday.”

We’re looking forward to Open Wild Gardens 2026.  Please contact Scharlie Platt if you would like to join in and open your garden next year.
