Trustee recruitment

HVCA needs more trustees! Please consider putting your name forward. Current trustees are Jeremy Wight [Chair] [Aston], Steve Shelley [Bamford], Sarah Roberts [Hathersage], Steve Platt [Hathersage], Louise Petheram [Bradwell] and Roger Clarke [Hope]. We need two more, to give us greater capacity and greater diversity.

The organisation

HVCA enables people in the Hope Valley to work together to tackle climate change, through practical activity, raising public awareness, and campaigning for change. HVCA is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation [CIO]. Visit https://hopevalleyclimateaction.org.uk/ to find out more.

The role

The trustees shape, facilitate and co-ordinate the work of HVCA. Their job is to:

  • Help HVCA set strategy to achieve its objectives, co-ordinate delivery of action, and monitor progress
  • Grow HVCA’s membership and influence
  • Communicate with members, listening to their views and encouraging them to engage
  • Foster and support village groups and action groups
  • Arrange regular general meetings or gatherings of members, enabling members to determine the direction of HVCA
  • Ensure excellent communication within HVCA and with the wider community
  • Ensure that the resources of HVCA [ideas, projects, communications, people, money] are applied to best effect to achieve our objectives
  • Ensure that HVCA complies with charity law.

Trustees meet regularly; currently twice a month for short zoom calls, plus taking part in the general meetings. The work is rewarding, stimulating and enjoyable! Trustees are appointed for three years.

A member is anyone who supports the objectives of HVCA and has agreed to be on our mailing list.

The person

We are looking for people who are committed to tackling climate change and support the objectives of HVCA. We need a good gender and age balance. We want trustees who can contribute diverse work and life experience, from different parts of the Hope Valley community. At present we would particularly welcome interest from young people, and from people with background and skills in land management, social media and fundraising. Time commitment varies, but we hope that trustees can give one day per month to HVCA activities.

The process

Please contact HVCA’s chair, Jeremy Wight <jeremywight73@gmail.com> if you would like an informal discussion. To apply, write to Jeremy setting out briefly why you want to be a trustee and what you can contribute. Please get in touch as soon as possible, and at latest by the end of March. We hope that new trustees will be able to start after the AGM, currently projected for 12th April.
