Move More Hope Valley – June Update

Move More Launch Event

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Move More Launch events and celebrating the Great Big Green Week last month. We held our first event at the Heart of Hathersage on Saturday, 7th June, and continued our tour across the Hope Valley, finishing at Edale Country Day on Sunday, 8th June. Throughout the weekend, you pedalled your way to make over 100 smoothies and left nearly 150 comments on our boards.

We had some great conversations and lots of participation and discussion around travelling within the Hope Valley, and what would help us move more. Some of the suggestions included creating more cycle infrastructure, having more bike capacity on trains, training for cycling and having maps of mountain bike trails.

We also asked you what groups you’re currently involved in or would like to be involved in.We had some great suggestions, including creating a family-friendly cycle group, a local walking group, and setting up a park run in the Hope Valley. All of these are possible, with your help!

Next Steps

We’ll be arranging events within each village across the Hope Valley to explore these ideas more and help support you create your own activities and groups which can help you move more. In the meantime, below are a few events to get involved in:

Walk Leadership Training – Free training in August

To support the communities across the Hope Valley to lead their own walking groups or help create a ‘walking bus’ for a school we’re working with High Peak Borough Council to deliver free walk leadership training this Summer. This is open to everyone who is interested to find out more or set up their own walking group.

Art Trail by Rail in July – Can you help?

We’re working with the Hope Valley Community Railway Partnership to deliver an Art Trail By Rail. The event will be involve taking a journey along the Hope Valley rail, hopping on and off the stops to explore local art and participate some creative activities. Do you know any creative people or activities in the Hope Valley or interested in helping? Get in touch with us and join our online planning meeting on Tuesday 15th July.

Move More Hope Valley is visiting Hathersage Gala – 12th July

We’ll be bringing our smoothie bike and a few more activities to Hathersage Gala next month. Come along and say hello, find out about upcoming events in the valley and create your own pedal-powered smoothie!
