Land Group Meeting 16 February

The Rewilding and Food and Farming Groups of HVCA are being reformed as the Land Group.

We will be holding an inaugural meeting by zoom on Wednesday the 16th of February to agree our scope, aims, ways of working etc. We already have a number of projects which fit within the new group including tree planting, verge management, gardening, campaigns to reduce peat and pesticide use.

We want to find ways to support farmers in the valley  working to deliver more sustainable agriculture. Some of you will have been inspired by the fascinating talks by Faith Johnson on soil management and Isky Gordon on different ways of tree planting.

If you are interested in any of these issues or if you have project ideas you would like to work with us on, we hope you will join us for this first meeting. Follow the zoom link below:

  1. Hi, we live up on Gatehouse Lane above Hathersage and have 2 acres of land. I have been in touch with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, and they are interested in rewilding our land as part of their connectivity scheme. They have done a site visit and suggested tree planting and creating a scrape for a wildlife pond. I am just about to follow this up with them, especially as I believe now is a good time to plant trees. I read that you are also very knowledgeable about this, and as you are so local, wonder if you can offer advice, help with sourcing the trees and possibly volunteers to help with the planting?
My husband and I are very keen to do some of the work, but are not as young or fit as we were!
Do get in touch if this is something within your remit. I hope to join your zoom meeting on 17th
Hoping to hear from you, Chris Winfield
